Natural medicine just extracts the plant, but of all medicine (aspirin) is plants. They get the ancient knowledge *herbal* writing and drawings of medical uses (it"s like where the plant grows) all on stone or leaves, this is called an herbal. Practical taxonomy: practical use of plants and the classification. In 2000 bc samaria: first record clay tablet with medical information. (first people used plants to stimulate near systems. Secondary metabolites: alkaloids (like nitrogen) very toxic in high concentration, but in low concentration its medicine. Glucose: essential for photosynthesis, but secondary metabolites are not necessary. Natural environment: plants is stressed but when we grow them they are not stressed. Doctrine of signatures: the idea that plants resemble the ailments they treat (ex: walnut looks like a brain heals mental illness) Ethnobotany: the use of plants by traditional society, they go to the villages and see how they are using plants there.
