The ump protocol will not add anything in the transport layer over the network layer. Can add reliability in the application layer. Length in bytes of udp segment including header. The checksum is the only thing that is added in transport layer. This can be used to detect errors in transmission. Reliable protocol (rdt1. 0) is built on top of an unreliable channel. For example - wi is unreliable, but we use protocols to try to have a reliable data transfer service. Reliable data transfer (rdt) is built onto of unreliable data transfer (udt) This example is only unidirectional (meaning the reliable data transfer is only going from a to b and not the other way), we use this model to explain it in class rooms. Use nite state machines (fsm) to specify the sender and receiver.
