Creon was sent to delphi to ask the oracle what thebes had done wrong. Creon was told that thebes was sheltering the murderer of the previous king. So he vows to hunt down this person and exile him. Tiresias tells him not to seek out this murder, as he knows it will destroy him. The shepherd that found him was brought in. Jocasta hung herself, to maintain the purity of her body as a non- penetrative way like a sword (which could be interpreted as a phallic object).
