Lecture 18 bronze age thebes (1600-1100 bc) The citizens of thebes assume that since they are suffering from a plague angered the gods in some way: they thought apollo was upset. They then dispatch creon to the oracle of apollo. Tiresias: he is the blind prophet ironic he is the only one that can really see the events around him*** He warns oedipus that you don"t want to know the truth. He says this knowledge will destroy you. Tiresias: tiresias was turned into a woman by hera for 7 years for beating snakes to death. He also gets married by the prophet of hera and has kids: after 7 years tiresias turns back into a man. Around this time zeus and hera get into an argument over who has a better time during sex. Hera says guys do: to solve the argument they bring in tiresias as he has been both a man and woman.
