Leisure plays an important role in peoples lives. Many of us are consumers of recreation and tourism services and also involved in the delivery of services. Leisure has the potential to promote positive impacts on the quality of life of individuals and communities. Leisure presents and opportunity for social interaction and for developing friendships, improving physical and mental health and for learning new skills and gaining knowledge. Recreation and tourism may lead to positive social, cultural and economic impacts. Example: festivals promote unique cultural heritage: supported by volunteers and therefore present a unique opportunity for individuals to work together and develop new relationships. Leisure is a right of all citizens, not a privilege according to the un declaration. In canada, recreation and tourism services are not universally available to all members of a community. The most difficult aspect in providing recreation and leisure services to a community is not to get funding for development and delivery.
