When a curved surface is submerged in a fluid there is pressure acting along the whole surface. The force"s (cid:373)ag(cid:374)itude a(cid:374)d directio(cid:374) cha(cid:374)ges alo(cid:374)g the surface: the pressure forces are normal to the curved surface, cannot just sum the pressure forces together as they are. Integration is not needed in this case: the fluid must be in static equilibrium. Separate the system into just a column of fluid involving the curved surface. Equals the force on a vertical plane which was formed by the projection of the curved surface. Also find the location of the center of pressure: where the top of the fluid is at the top of the surface hcp = -2/3. Equals the magnitude and direction of the weight from the column of fluid on the curved surface.
