When researching invasive species you need evidence on many levels to prove it is deter mental to the ecosystem it is invading. Can use biological control to minimize the impacts. Are the impacts an empirical issue? science cant answer the question of should it be controlled? (purple loosestrife) Do not know enough about invading species as we need to, to predict when invading foreign species will replace native plants and animals. Globally biodiversity is decreasing as a result of human-assisted invasions. Locally the extinction of native species has typically been more than offset by the colonization of invading species ex. 8 foreign mussels come into a lake with 10 native mussels, but only kill off 3 species.
