Frequency and duration of periods soil is saturated with water: well drained (infrequent, short periods a day or two, moderately well drained, poorly drained (often, long periods several days) Tile drainage a perforated pipe placed at regular intervals (15 m) to draw excess water away. Anything of interest wetlands, gravel pit, past buildings, other issues. Soil proile: pictures, depth of horizons, structure of each horizon. Try hand texturing each horizon, stoniness of horizons, boundary type, etc. , visual colour of each horizon, presence of carbonates: depth and distribution roots. Landscape: describe topography, measures of slope steepness, stones, drainage, erosion. Function of soil in ecosystem: support plant growth. Physical environment: support provides support for plant roots to keep them standing, root space. Size of pores smaller pores (like capillaries) the water goes farther, water doesn"t drain very fast, can"t transfer water/air fast. Strength of soil material (ease of deformation)
