A group of individuals that interbreed and produce fertile offspring and is reproductively isolated from other such groups. If they cannot mate, or the offspring cannot reproduce, then they are not a species. Two highly social groups: stingless bees and honey bees (genus apis) True honey bees all belong to apis. Originated in southeast asia and spread to rest of the world. This hypo has been challenged by those who sequenced honey bee dna. And saying that they originated from africa and spreaded. Either hypothesis, they were not from americas, they were introduced. Four to six species in the genus apis. Worker would be the size of western hb queen. Three of the species are still confined in asia, out of the west. Build a single large comb, need to have a huge hive for them. Therefore they are still hunted for their honey. Summer time fly north towards himalayan mountain.
