Participant observation- a type of research where you immerse yourself in the culture of the people you are studying. Cultural tunnel vision (immersed in a culture may lead to bias) going native . Emic and etic perspectives on info dilemma on if the researcher is the insider or outsider, or both. Going native , not far enough= not knowing th story. What people think about their own lives/ culture. Emic and etic come from linguistic which come from the formal properties of language. Phonetic-the study of the sound of all human language, a model for comparing, creates generalization. Phonemics- study of the sound in a particular language, english speakers in. Ties into what anthro"s do and how they do it. Hedican: explinations, interpretations in the cultures and lives of other peoples. A suggestion of patterns and regulations of how people live. Social world that we live in is orderly, patterned, governed by laws and rules.
