What is aging: what drives the process of aging is still unknown. Some theories: genetics, dna damage, prevents repairing in the body, evolutionary pressures, discoveries in science have expanded the human lifespan, diet, what we eat affects how we age. Ingesting fewer calories with the right amount of vitamins of minerals: longer life. Marriage and sexuality at midlife: couples review their marriages and work out new arrangements, may lead to an increase in sex, don"t have as many responsibilities once children are older. Generativity: generativity as a major life task, 4 areas: obiological: deciding to have children, procreation oparental: nurturing and socializing children, technical: contributing by teaching skills to the next generation, cultural: passing on cultural values and traditions to the next generation. Challenges to aging: ageism, stereotyping older people, usually negative but also may be positive, many people have a fear of getting old- may take out anger and fear towards other people.
