How does theory link? why do we need research in social gerontology? there are three goals of gerontology research: to explore, to describe, and to ultimately explain the process of aging. Evidence that is observable by the senses. How can we remove bias in terms of collecting our empirical data i. e. randomized control trial - tries to keep as much bias out as possible, trying to keep it as objective as possible control. Positivism represents an attempt to transfer the principles of the physical sciences directly to human behaviour. a more flexible form of positivism is postpositivism. Post positivism recognizes that objectivity can be hard. While postpositivist gerontologists strive to be objective, they recognize that their studies are value laden.
