6 moral principles to guide decision making: autonomy, promotion of self determination - promote ability to make sound choices, think about cultural sensitivity - independence vs interdependence (independence defined different in different cultures, nonmaleficence, avoid doing harm. Informed consent: beneficence, promoting good for others, beneficial moving forward, also share with participants how this can help in the future, even if its hard now it may relieve people in the future. Justice: be fair by giving equally to others, minimizing power differential (choice, opt out, options - children especially, make them feel comfortable and allow them to make choices if something is too much, they want a break etc. ) Fidelity: fulfilling one"s responsibilities of trust in a relationship, veracity truthfulness. Model for resolving ethical dilemmas: gather facts, take action. Identify the problem or dilemma during information gathering and consultation about the nature of the problem.
