The anthropocene: relating to or denoting the current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment, start date debatable. 10,00 years ago: start of the agricultural revolution. 250 years ago: start of the industrial revolution. Flow: perpetual (solar energy, tides) renewable (fish, trees) Key is rate of extraction relative to rate of regeneration. Water is an interesting flow resource, it renews itself slowly. Oecd: north america, western europe, japan, australia, and new zealand (20% of the population) 7. 3-7. 4 billion people currently (still expected to rise very rapidly) Reference case: 11 billion people by the end of the century (un projection) The growth of population is very uneven; in africa it is the fastest. Population pyramids: graphical representations of population (can tell you quite a bit about population) When population growth slows down, it doesn"t resemble a pyramid.
