These form over land or water in temperate regions at latitudes 30-70 degrees. They are associated with front & are also called mid-latitude cyclones. Large area of low pressure w/ unsettled weather. Organized area of storms wind of 65-119km/h. Area of low pressure with wind of at least 120km/h. They are referred to by different names in different parts of the world. Hurricanes in the us, typhoon in asia, cyclones in aus & s europe. Region in center w/ light winds & clear to partly cloudy skies. Ring of intense thunderstorms that whirl around eye (worst place to be) Ring of tall clouds & heavy rain that exist throughout a hurricane. Names were first assigned to hurricanes in 1953. Alternating male + female names in alphabetical order.
