Balls of flame tossed from one tree to another. When the trees burn they release gases that combust. Through fire scars, every time it is burned you can see the growth rings embedded in them. Fire created opened grown forests with big trees. Lots of space between trees because only some survived during the past fires. The real" smokey the bear was a cub orphaned by a wildfire that was saved. The evidence that exists today is that trees still exist because dodge"s fire slowed down the main fire because it eliminated the fuel and protected those trees.
