Document Summary
Context and location changes occuring in places where science is studied have heavily impacted the development of how that natural knowledge surfaced during a particular time period. This can be seen in the greek civilization from 6th century. Bce, as the primary place where natural philosophy was practiced was in the agora or marketplace. This venue allowed natural philosophers to exchange ideas, discuss, trade, and debate, which ultimately impacted how science was practiced. Socrates was a philosopher who frequently visited the agora to explain his ideas on the natural world, particularly those about the ideal . Such discussion made natural philosophy more collaborative and public which helped to transmit ideas about the natural world more effectively. In contrast, plato rejected the agora/marketplace setting and opted for a more organized structure, which led to the foundation of his school, the academy.
