Document Summary

Upon completion of this unit, you should be able to: E(cid:454)plai(cid:374) keith tho(cid:373)as"s (cid:272)o(cid:374)(cid:272)ept of (cid:862)hu(cid:373)a(cid:374) as(cid:272)e(cid:374)da(cid:374)(cid:272)(cid:455);(cid:863) a(cid:374)d. Use historical examples to demonstrate the paradoxes and dilemmas that came to define human interaction with animals in the early modern era (1500-1800). Each week you will be asked to explore ideas, events, theories, or processes that help you find patterns in all the historical detail through which you will be wading. Some of these are discussed in the course readings, but many are not. You will need to do your own research in academic and public sources, as appropriate, to get to know them and be able to define them. To help you keep track of these concepts and specific examples, you are encouraged to summarize them by putting information in your own words. Feel free to keep a record of all the concepts and events in a word document for your own learning.
