In 73-71 bc, crassus led the military suppression of the revolt of spartacus. He crucified 6000 members of the spartacus army. Shown his brutality against his own men: his men showed cowardice, crassus invoked decimation. Selected one of ten of his men and executed them. The other 9 had to beat the other guy up. Rose to prominence as a supporter of sulla. Cos. 70: became a consul at this age, pompey was a well-established military man, about 36 years old when he was made consulships, he eradicated pirates in the mediterranean. Pompey made war on the black sea against this king mithridates.
