Sparta"s military power came in the form of hoplite warriors and they were unable to change that, because of the commands of lycurgus plus sparta didn"t believe in walls. Corcyra island in the northern ionian sea local problem alliances of greek leagues is triggered much like world war i. Sparta marched north towards athens with his infantry army wanted to draw the athens into battle which they will obvs win. The longest that the spartans can really stay in athens is 40 days because they have to crush the helot rebellion.
