MBG 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Spermatogonium, Seminiferous Tubule, Sertoli Cell
Document Summary
Gametogenesis is the producion of haploid gametes by diploid mulicellular organisms through the process of meiosis: producion of female gametes or ova (eggs) is called oogenesis, producion of male gametes or spermatozoa (sperm) is called spermatogenesis. How sperm cells are produced: in seminiferous tubules there are a variety of types of cells that has a variety of precursor cells, spermatogonial cells goes through mitosis, spermatogonial stem cells. Spermaids mature into mature sperm cells that are in the lumen. Sertoli cells nurse and feed the germ-line cells during the mitoic event. Light pink area has seminiferous tubules, this is where sperm cells are developed. Light blue and dark blue lead to sperm. Cells represent the diferent cell types of mature sperm cells. Mitosis and meiosis take place within the cell. Primordial: leads to producion of precursor cells, can be male or female, goes through development, which ulimate develops into spermatgonium stem cell (stem cell refuels process)
