Document Summary

Monday, march 28, 2016 cell cycle control and cancer. Control of the cell cycle: review from week 10. Cdk does the job brining the thing through the checkpoint. Cyclins are regulatory proteins: present: cdk is acive and does its duty to bringing it to its checkpoint. Physical state of the cell determines where cyclin will be made. If there is not enough cyclin, cdk can"t be made and therefore the cell will not be able to go through the cell cycle and it will arrest. If ras is always acive, it means that the rest of the signaling cascade is always acive regardless if the growth factor is there or not, this is cancer. Produces proteins that normally prevents cell division or normally cause cell death: dna repair genes. Examples: proteins in signaling cascade that simulates cell growth: growth factors, regulatory proteins (ex. kinases, transcripion factors (ex. acivators)
