Document Summary
Fate of a nascent, properly folded & glycosylated soluble or integral membrane in the rer either: retained in the er, exits er: moves to eres (subdomain involved in formation of transport vesicles destined for golgi) Usually located next to cis face of golgi. Vesicles have distinct morphology: small, fuzzy surface due to layer of coat proteins (cop) attached to the cytosolic surface of the vesicle. Three major classes of coat proteins, each with distinct roles in vesicle transport: cop ii: anterograde transport (move forwards) from eres to golgi nucleus, cop i: retrograde transport (move backwards) from. Golgi to er and backwards within the golgi: clathrin: move from the golgi to the pm or to endosomes. Soluble cop ii component sar1-gdp is recruited from the cytosolic surface of the eres: sar1 = g protein. Sar1-gdp binds guanine-exchange factor (gef), which generates sar1-gtp: gef = an er integral membrane protein that catalyzes the exchange of gdp for gtp on sar1.
