Acid rock was inspired by the hippy generation & by their interest in drug culture, involving the senses. Guitars in particular were usually heavily distorted. Jam sessions in the middle of long songs. Made most of their living through touring. Music is an early example of that influence of eastern thought which had begun to influence the 20th century avant garde. If you sit & wait for something to happen, you"re going to hate it. Features of blues based rock (improvisatory guitar solo) No drugs but sex but not raunchy or funny. Vocals hard to hear, like a drug trip. Meant to recreate drug trip for audience. Drug use made it a self destructive movement. Whole lotta love - led zeppelin harsher in the vocals. Improvisatory section in the middle clever and put together. Not just guitar, a whole sound environment (many layers) The sex was happening and the guitar solo represents the orgasm.
