It is music heard by the majority, that possesses longevity and that is akin to commercial success. It can be an element of a larger culture that appeals to the masses as it is easily relatable. It can evoke a sense of nostalgia, if the song possesses longevity (depends on specific era) It is forever evolving as musical values change over time. It is divided along racial and gender lines. Timbre: a poetic word that describes the colour of a sound. The character or quality of a musical sound or voice as distinct from its pitch and intensity. It changes according to genre and musical era. Tempo: the speed or pace of the music. Homophony: multiple melodic lines, where one is often distinctively higher than the others and plays a distinct melody. The remaining lines are accompanying voices that work together to articulate an underlying harmony. Polyphony: consists of 2 or more independent melodic lines occurring synchronously.
