PBIO 4000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Xanthomonas Campestris, Leucine Zipper, Immune Receptor
Document Summary
Proteins or peptides produced by biotrophs to manipulate the host (have an effect on the plant) Positive effect (for pathogen: primary positive effect is pti occurring (unavoidable due to pamps being recognized), pathogen secretes / releases effectors that interfere with pti & suppress pti. Cladosporium fulvum hyphae grows biotrophically in apoplast (space between cells) of tomato leaves: avr2 is a 58 aa peptide. Some c. fulvum strains have it, some strains do not have it. Have mutations in the gene, or deletions for avr2, or some have transposons: avr9 is 28 aa cysteine knot peptide (mobile function) knocking out function. Bound together by cysteine bonds, makes structure very stable. Some c. fulvum strains have it or some strains completely lack the gene for it. Unlike pamps that are highly conserved, these can be highly different: even strains of the same species can be different. Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria: infects peppers, tomatoes, etc, avrbs1 protein.
