In queer theory judith butler, gayle rubin, jeffrey weeks. Ruben is just as sophisticated as butler but she writes accessibly. Butler expects that you know a whole lot, and most people are not academics and don"t know. First of all, it means that society is actively and creatively produced by human beings. The world is even much of the external world: is produced by humans. There are a couple of things that are important, social constructions, not just individual conceptions. That was a phrase used by the movement the personal is political not everything catches on language is completely social. Language is social, the really radical claim is that a whole lot of the world is social. The controversial part is that it stands in contrast to lots of science (things that are natural to humans). Some things are un likely to be natural and are clearly social and created.
