In terms of art, if an artist is a genius we don"t mean they are very smart necessarily. Pg. 175 two characterizations of what goes into genius, genius is not a quantity it"s a quality. Originality, if you just follow the rules you"re not a genius people can derive rules from the work of a genius who is presenting something new and original: genius must produce something original (they got new rules) He was regarded as someone who didn"t know what he was doing (the impressionists) they presented their work to the paris exhibition and they were rejected. All the originality was in the refused work. You don"t know if it"s going to be exemplary. There is a question that comes up in the previous paragraph. There is no concept of beautiful so fine art is beautiful. A product cannot be called art unless it is preceded by a rule.
