Uses rawls" concept of the basic structure way that the major social, economic, political institutions apportion the benefits and burdens of social cooperation . We have some hand in shaping our lives, but each individual"s life prospects are obviously deeply shaped by a social structure that he or she did not choose. Also uses rawls" idea of justice as a fair system of cooperation: Social justice is defined by the set of legitimate claims and obligation individuals have witin a fair overall social system . A fair system of social cooperation requires racial equality without being unfairly inhibited in this pursuit by others" racial prejudice and bias , and therefore fair equality of opportunity.
