The office of the prime minister or the cabinet is not mentioned anywhere in canada"s. Constitution; the only thing in the bna act is that canada will have a governing system similar to that of britain. Over the last 150 years, many constitutional conventions (custom, practice) have emerged these conventions are what define the role of the prime minister, cabinet, governor general, etc. There are three entities in particular that assist the political executive in carrying out its tasks: pmo, pco, treasury board. The pmo (prime minister"s office) is a powerful, relatively unknown part of government it is a group of people that advise the pm on the political dimensions of any policies. Looks at the political ramifications of policies, through the lens of partisans. The people who work in the pmo are not civil servants; they are party loyalists: the members of the current pmo are liberal loyalists, and the people there before were conservative loyalists.
