Canada"s constitutional history and traditions are a fascinating blend of. Generally speaking, constitutions are described as written or unwritten. The united states has the oldest constitution in the world dating back to 1787. There is no single document in the united kingdom that is called the constitution. Rather, there is a collection of legislative statutes that contain constitution-like rules about institutions and their behaviour and practices. Over time and through use, they become known as constitutional conventions. One of the most important clauses in the constitution act, 1867 is its preamble in which it is stated that the provinces of canada, nova scotia and new brunswick will have (cid:498)a. Constitution similar in principle to that of the united kingdom. (cid:499) One of the most successful metaphors applied to the canadian constitution. If we think of government as a game, the rules are found in a state"s constitution.
