POLS 3440 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Justin Trudeau
Document Summary
It is a common occurrence for politicians to lie to the public, especially during electoral campaigns. I do not tolerate or forgive politicians who lie, however i am aware there are some exceptions. While doing research for my term paper, i read about the president bill clinton/monica lewinsky affair scandal. While on trial for a sexual harassment suit, filed by a former employee, president clinton denied having any sexual relationship with lewinsky this lie was said under oath, arguably cheapening and corrupting the doctrine (eko, 2000). This is a lie i would chose to forgive because i can only imagine the pressure and personal confliction occurring at that time. The types of lies i would not forgive are those promised by running politicians during an electoral campaign. For example, justin trudeau promised that if elected, his party would be the last to win an election under the first-past-the-post voting system (stone, 2017).
