Thought of variolation and infected people with a small pox pustule on open skin, some got sick and died, most got infected. Noticed milk maids didn"t get small pox, it was b/c of their cowpox. Applied cow pox pustule to james"s skin and he didn"t get small pox. Conducted a study with 6 groups of 2 males where the only difference was diet, one group was fed 2 oranges and a lemon daily and protected against scurvy leading to revelation of vitamin c against scurvy. Noticed a lot of scrotum cancer in young chimney sweep boys, what they called soot wart. Thought since people had symptoms in gi it must affect it and be food or water borne. Broad street pump was contaminated as a sewer met up with the water pipe.
