POPM 3240 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Simple Random Sample, Nonprobability Sampling, Clinical Trial
Document Summary
The whole population is surveyed which sometimes is not possible. Need a list of everyone and to get hold of everyone. Have large quantity but it may not be necessary. A portion of the population is surveyed. 10% of on residents are randomly sampled to obtain demographic info. Assess specific associations between factors (exposures) and disease (outcome) E. g. people who received mbct were 30% less likely to experience depression. Need to be getting a good representation of the population or it will lead to bias. Inclusion criteria (for people wanted for the study) Exclusion criteria (not wanted for the study) The population of individuals/units actually sampled for the study. I. e. after selecting a number of units, sometimes not all of them will choose to participate. Population from which the study subjects are drawn. Should be able to list all members of this population, sometimes not possible (e. g. not registered)
