PSYC 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Classical Conditioning, B. F. Skinner, Reinforcement
Document Summary
Psyc 1000: how do we learn and acquire knowledge, how do we learn through the consequences of our actions. Behaviourism: started with proponents that mental life was much less important behaviour as a foundation for psychological science. Watson gets fired and works as marketer (cars + women) Measured the amount of saliva when presented with different kinds of food. Little bell on top of door (rang when entered/exited) Would salivate when research assistant entered or exited (with or without food) End goal: get conditioned stimulus (cs) and a conditioned response (cr) Neutral stimulus: stimuli that does not condition response. Unconditioned stimuli: stimulus triggers a response naturally, with/without conditioning. Conditioned stimulus: stimulus will trigger the learned cr. Conditioned response: learned response trigged by cs. The ur now gets triggered by cs and becomes cr. For the association to be acquired the ns needs to be repeatedly appear before us.
