Document Summary
Primary goal is to describe: correlational. Is there an association between variable x and variable y. Is variable x having an effect on variable y. Case study: observing and gathering information to compile and in-depth study of on individual: overgeneralization from one example. Naturalistic observation: recording behaviour in the environment without control or manipulation. Survey: a method of gathering information about many people"s thoughts or behaviours through self-report: telephone survey on the attitude of people working to make politicians. Purpose: to observe the correlation between two variables: i. e. depression being associated with low self-esteem. Will often use surveys in this case to look for co-relationship between the two variables. Example of correlational study: survey of 30 students, 21 answered, how much do you likes starbucks vs. how close do you live. Correlational coefficient: a measure of association between 2 variables varies in direction (positive and negative) and strength. Negative direction: as one goes up the other goes down.
