Stress a psychological and physiological reaction that occurs when perceived demands exceed existing resources to meet the demands: stress refers to both events (stressors) and experiences in response to these events (the stress response). Stressors can take a wide variety of forms (acute or chronic): they can have a positive or negative effect on performance. What causes stress: people differ in their responses to stress, cognitive appraisal of stress theory created by richard lazarus and susan folkman. Appraisal refers to cognitive acts of assessing and evaluating the potential threat an d demands of an event. It occurs in two steps: primary appraisal is when one asks themselves is this a threat? . If the answer is no, the person will not experience stress. The person may determine that they know how to cope with these stressors, and in this case the person may not feel much stress anymore.
