Why do we need psychological science? b/c our natural thinking style can fail! If we described our brains/minds/behaviours ourselves --> it will be subjective!! Findings may seem obvious after we know the fact. It"s so easy to find evidence to support a known fact! Think we can predict stuff from random events. We think there"s a pattern but really there isn"t! Just the facts, measurements --> nothing w/ our own emotions, ideas, etc. Operational definition: defines variable in the way you will measure it! (in terms of how it will be measured) Psychological measure (blood alcohol level) --> most objective! Behavioural measure (# of missteps when walking in a straight line) Self-reported measure (scale of 1~10 survey) --> most subjective! Same scores over time (ex: same iq score from year to year) Testing same thing across 2+ test versions (ex: versions a & b for a midterm test) Same consistency across scorers/observers/testers (ex: 2 observers for same situation)
