Physical proximity plays a role in attraction and relationship formation. More likely to be acquainted with someone near & also more likely to fall in love with someone acquainted too. We like those who are physically attractive. We think they are nicer, smarter, etc . More likely to want to be acquainted with them. We like others who are similar to us. Connecting 2 stimuli where they were previously unpaired. The early stages or attraction influenced by conditioning. Room temperature: hot & humid (uncomfortable) or pleasant con- ditions (comfortable) Questionnaire about dissimilar person (25% similarity) or similar person (75% similarity) We like those who are similar to me under control condi- tions. Pleasant condition liked both groups more than those in hot condition. More forgiving of dissimilar because feeling good. Pairing one"s feelings in the room to someone else. Reinforcement theorists and the three facts regarding attraction: Proximity increases the chances of classical conditioning.
