Asch study across cultures: versions of asch"s experiment have been replicated in more than a dozen countries. Regardless of individualistic or collectivistic society: higher in interdependent self in both individualistic and collectivistic cultures, conformity is highest when people have interdependent values. Definition of obedience: obedience is conformity in response to the commands of an authority figure. You are told what to do: conformity in general, you don"t exactly need an authority figure. Even if you aren"t told, when you expect what you"re supposed to do that"s obedience. Obedience to the authority: milgram"s experiments (1965;1974, majority of participants kept giving the maximum shock. Original experiment video = watch the first 15 minutes: 65% of participants kept giving the max shocks, after pounding on the wall, learner stays quiet, but the teacher kept giving shocks. They thought most people would stop and that someone would have to be extremely sadistic to continue.
