Document Summary

Social thinking & social perception how we think about & perceive our social world. Social influence how other ppl influence our behaviour. Social relations how we behave toward other ppl. Attributions judgements about causes of our own & other ppl"s behaviour & outcomes. Attempts to understand why ppl behave as they do involve either (heider): Personal (internal) attributions infer that ppl"s behaviour caused by their characteristics. Situational (external) attributions infer that aspects of the situation cause a behaviour. How we determine attribution (kelley): consistency, distinctiveness, & consensus all high = situational attribution; consistency high but other 2 factors low = personal attribution. Fundamental attribution error underestimate impact of the situation & overestimate role of personal factors when explaining other ppl"s behaviour; how we perceive others" behaviour rather than our own. Self-serving bias making relatively more personal attributions for successes & more situation attributions for failures.
