PSYC 2330 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Somatic Nervous System, Sympathetic Nervous System, Parasympathetic Nervous System
Document Summary
Behaviour behaviour changing = learning, observable data: something informing your brain/body what to do. Stimulus a detectable change in the internal or external environment. Some stimuli more attractive to some than others: ie. burger is less attractive to vegetarians. Neutral stimulus doesn"t attract any behaviour, is neutral. Appetitive/incentive stimulus attractive, makes you want it, attracts responses. Aversive stimulus keep away from it. Receptors eyes, ears, tongue, skin, etc. Response a quantifiable reaction to a stimulus. Somatic nervous system muscles ~ walking, etc. Autonomic nervous system smooth muscles (stomach function), glands (hormones), cardiac muscles, breathing, etc: sympathetic nervous system, parasympathetic nervous system. Subconscious not in your immediate conscious but can be drawn to your consciousness, pushing things that are not immediately important away: stimulus subconscious response (bypassing consciousness) Formed by operant conditioning: predictive stimuli subconscious response.
