Rich or detailed information from an insider"s perspective: disadvantages. Lack of a testable hypothesis: descriptive nature of observational studies. Works really well when observing behaviour we don"t know much about. Observer could cause a change in behaviour: people become more self conscious when they know they"re being observed. Case study: de ned a research methodology that is an in-depth investigation of an individual animal, event, or treatment method, advantage. Study rare events that would be otherwise unethical to study: disadvantages. Not always able to determine the cause of observer behaviour. Unusual events might not in uence all equally. Archival research: de ned a methodology where the researcher uses existing records and selects portions of the records to examine.
