Goal of measurement is to turn conceptual variables into measure variables. Conceptual variables: college performance, self-esteem, or memory, creaivity, gender, sex. Operaional deiniion: how a conceptual variable is turned into a measured variable, if some aspect of behaviour is vague or may have muliple meanings, we want to deine such concepts in ways that are. Concrete: removes feelings and intuiions of a paricular individual, less danger to be misunderstood, allows for replicaion.
