PSYC 2360 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Likert Scale, Demand Characteristics, Statistical Conclusion Validity
Document Summary
Threats to construct validity: does the manipulaion of the independent variable appropriately create the conceptual variable of interest. Threats to staisical conclusion validity: type 1 and 2 errors. Threats to internal validity: can we trust the conclusions about the causal relaionship between the independent and dependent variable. Threats to externa validity: can we generalize the results beyond the speciic seing and paricipants to other places, people and imes. Extent to which changes in the dependent variable can conidently be atributed to the efect of the independent variable rather than to the potenial efects of confounding variables. Occurs to the extent the experimenter is able to eliminate efects on the dependent variable other than the efects of the independent variable: extraneous variables (random) Variables other than the independent variable that cause changes in the dependent variable. Iniial diferences among the research paricipants: ability, mood, moivaion, diferences in how the experimenter treats the paricipants, how they react to the experimental seing.
