Moral principles that govern a persons or group"s behaviour. Refers to the moral correctness of a speciied conduct. Human beings often behave diferently when they are being studied. Scientists assess the ethical principles of each and every research project and realize they may need to change or completely abandon some research procedures. Individual values o: ethical codes (ie. apa) Provide freedom of choice about participating in the research. Maintain awareness of the power diferentials between researcher and participant. Honestly describe the nature and use of the research to participants. Prior to wwii there was little concern for ethical treatment of humans: nazi concentration camps, nuremberg code. Penicillin can be used to treat syphilis but some were not being treated and allowed to get worse. Giving shocks to another person (to the point of physical harm) Deception they didn"t know the other person wasn"t being hurt.
