Limitations of using intuition: people think they know things they don"t really know, hindsight bias: the tendency to think we could have predicted something we probably could not have predicted. Science must be based on what has come. May be: empirical= based on observations or measurement, objective, replicable scientists use to conduct before it. Study human behaviour for two main reasons: want to understand it. Basic research: want to contribute to creating solutions to problems that face human beings. Progress in science is dependent on a synergy between basic and applied research. Much applied research is guided by the theories and findings of basic research investigations. Findings obtained in field settings often require modification of existing theories and spur more basic research. Specific method a researcher uses to collect, analyze, and interpret data. Designed to answer questions about the current state of affairs.
