September 21, 2016: light: a form of electromagnetic radiation, newton (1700"s): he thought light was particles, they travelled in a straight line (photons, james clerk maxwell (1873): he thought light was disturbance in the continuum creating a wave. Amplitude: amplitude of the wave which is half the height of the entire wave (physics) and the tallest wave the brighter it is (psychology) Wavelength: wavelength: length between waves (period, red has long wavelengths, blue has short wavelengths, measured in nanometres, human perception stops at radar, inferred rays snakes can see, ultraviolet light is after blue some mammals can see it. Function: pupil is the hole that lets light in iris is the coloured part of the eye the muscles in the iris control the width of the pupil controlling how much light enters the eye. If it is dark outside, the pupil widens to let a lot of light in, if bright it narrow out.
