Metamers - two images with different spatial frequency, but a certain species or age of a human sees them as identical because of their inability to see the difference in spatial frequencies: species (how measured?) You set up an experiment where an animal, such as a cat, is trained to put its paw on the stripes it sees, and every time you do that you give them a treat. When the cat stops putting it"s paw on the bar, this is the threshold. Cats can not see high spatial frequencies (compared to what humans can see) A baby sits on the mothers lap and sees two images, one that is a solid grey, the other with stripes. The baby will usually choose to look at the stripes.
