PSYC 2650 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Word Superiority Effect, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Necker Cube
Document Summary
For humans, vision is the dominant sense. Form perception: the process through which you manage to see the basic shape and size of an object. Object recognition: the process through which you identify what the object is. Object recognition is essential whenever you want to apply your knowledge to the world. Object recognition begins with detection of simple visual features. Jerome bruner 1973: (cid:862)be(cid:455)o(cid:374)d the i(cid:374)for(cid:373)atio(cid:374) gi(cid:448)e(cid:374)(cid:863) describes some of the ways that our perception of stimulus differs from the stimulus itself. Necker cube: example of a reversible figure people routinely perceive it first one way, and then another, your perception switches back and forth. Your perception is guided by principles of proximity and similarity. Similarity: we tend to group objects with similar elements. Proximity: we make groups based off objects proximity to one another.
